Asiya began working at the Collective in August 2019 as a research assistant focusing on the Action for Empowerment and Accountability (A4EA) research programme. She has been involved in multiple work streams within the programme such as Gendered Contentions and Navigating Civic Spaces in a Time of Covid-19. Alongside the A4EA work, she has been managing the Pakistan chapter of the longitudinal and comparative online ethnographic study called Family and Community in the Time of Covid-19 - a ten-country initiative spearheaded by University College London.
Previously, Asiya worked in a research lab at Mount Holyoke's psychology department studying issues faced by the LGBTQ+ community regarding mental and sexual health equity and access. She was also involved in a research project focusing on the psycho-social problems faced by Bhutanese refugees residing in West Springfield, Massachusetts.
During her undergrad, she worked at Human Rights Watch (HRW) in New York as a Development and Outreach Intern, and as a research intern and facilitator at Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (SOC) Films and The Recovery House Rehabilitation Centre in Karachi.
